The biggest gift that becoming a massage therapist has given me is the gift of embodiment— the sense that I have received an instruction manual to my body and its intricacies. In my work, I strive to bring that feeling to my clients.
Massage therapy is a beautiful gift and a powerful healing modality. I love to work with my clients to bring them back to their bodies and make them feel more at home within themselves. With the identities I hold, I have often felt that it is very easy to dissociate from yourself in order to survive. With that, I believe that it is then essential to care for yourself in a way that encourages you to thrive. I aim to help my clients find what their body needs in order to thrive and to find that safe home within themselves. For this reason, I am particularly drawn to working with my fellow LGBTQ+ and POC populations. We have such a deep and complex history rooted in trauma, disembodiment, and survival — but also steeped in resilience, beauty, and an incredible power.
I have learned through my practice that the body has an innate desire and ability to help itself heal. My massage style can be described as treatment-focused relaxation, and I use steadying and intuitive techniques to encourage the body to find healing and forge a brain-body connection. I aim to guide the body into a deep parasympathetic state (“rest and digest” mode, rather than the “fight or flight” mode that we can tend to get stuck in) so that the muscles and tissues can relax and allow for any long-held pain and tension patterns to be identified and dissipated. I tend to gravitate more toward medium and moderate pressure with the occasional bout of deeper pressure through deep tissue and myofascial release techniques, and I love to work with energy balancing and trauma release through craniosacral therapy. In a session with me, you can expect long holds and very slow pacing in order to target your area of discomfort and treat it effectively. I always encourage clients that I am a safe space, and any adjustments or needs requested will be met free of judgement. My massage approach will always be body-kind, client-centered, and will meet you where you’re at, wherever that may be.
